Rochester Arts and Lectures is proud to announce their support of the children’s free library at Golisano Children’s Hospital in conjunction with the Edward G. Miner Library in the School of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Rochester.

As part of this on-going effort, RAL will ask its subscribers and friends to donate children’s books, new or “like-new,” to help populate the library for our community’s sick children. This will be an ongoing effort.

Please bring a children’s or young adult book to any of our RAL presentations, and we will deliver them to the Miner Library for distribution to the Golisano Children’s Hospital.

Also involved in providing children’s reading materials is the Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library. We are grateful for their enthusiastic support.

Rochester is fortunate to have a hospital of the caliber of Golisano Children’s Hospital staffed with health care professionals committed to the well-being of our community’s children.

RAL, our friends and subscribers, and its community partners are eager to demonstrate we can fill the shelves and give our children and young people a world of choices.

The Family Resource Library at the new Golisano Children’s Hospital is a comfortable place for patients and families to visit. The library provides books, magazines, computers, iPads and other materials as well as Internet access, PCs and a multipurpose copier, fax machine and printer. A professional librarian is available to help families and patients find accurate and up-to-date information about health care, treatments or coping with an illness. The services are free and all visitors, siblings and caregivers are welcome to use the space. The librarian also helps clinicians and hospital staff locate reliable, relevant and authoritative health information by providing expert database searching, quality instruction and up to date research on infant, child and teen diseases, disorders and interventions.

Edward G. Miner Library is an academic health sciences library serving the University of Rochester Medical Center, including the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, School of Medicine & Dentistry, School of Nursing, Strong Memorial Hospital, University Medical Faculty Group, Golisano Children’s Hospital and members of the public. Librarians and professional staff are available to help patrons keep current on their research, improve on their ability to search and evaluate databases, journals and the internet, organize papers using bibliographic tools like RefWorks and EndNote and navigate the NIH public access mandate. The library offers classes, consulting services and workshops on a variety of topics including bioinformatics, data analysis, database use and online course development. Miner’s Rare Books & Manuscripts Section is the repository for an impressive collection of primary and secondary resources in the field of medical, dental, and nursing history.
