A.S. Byatt Internationally acclaimed as a novelist, short story writer, and critic, A.S. Byatt was honored with the appointment of “Dame Commander” by the Royal British Empire in 1999. Her work varies in style and genre, and references broad, sweeping disciplines such as academic literary theory and global fairy-tale traditions. Her books include Possession (for which she was awarded the prestigious Booker Prize), and the quartet The Virgin in the Garden, Still Life, Babel Tower and A Whistling Woman.
